Is One Direction really breaking up? Simon Cowell, who formed the boy band on the British version ofX Factor, claimed that the quintet will split after recording two more albums. The news has inspired the #1DToLiveOnForever hashtag on Twitter.
“Bands don't stay together forever,” Simon Cowell said of One Direction. "I think they will make at least two more albums together and they are in the middle of one right now.”

Directioners have long dreaded the day when One Direction would break up. And earlier this summer, it appeared their fears would be realized. Kodaline singer Steve Garrigan revealed in July that he was working on music with Harry Styles, which sparked speculation that Styles was leaving 1D for a solo career. But a rep for the band quickly set the record straight.
“There are no plans for Harry to release any solo music at this time, any writing that he is doing is for potential One Direction songs,” the rep said. “It's common knowledge that the boys write separately and bring to each other for the album.”

Simon Cowell confirmed this statement in his new interview, noting that there are no plans for Harry Styles to leave One Direction anytime soon. Instead, he believes all five members will eventuallybreak up and go off on their own.
“No, I don’t think that is going to happen for a while,” Simon Cowell said of Harry Styles leaving One Direction. “Eventually I am sure they all will.”

But it seems the members of One Direction have not gotten the memo about breaking up after two more albums. Liam Payne said just a few days ago that he and his bandmates want to put out one album every year for as long as they can.

“We love what we’re doing right now,” Payne said when asked about the One Direction breakup rumors. “We have no intention of changing that, and want to release an album every year — year after year.”
And Harry Styles expressed similar sentiments about a possible One Direction breakup “I’m 100 percent in this band,” he said in July. “I still want to be touring with One Direction in ten years. I’ll be doing it until I’m old and people are telling me to stop.”
Still, these quotes have not stopped One Direction fans from freaking out on Twitter about a possible breakup. Directioners are trending the hashtag #1DToLiveOnForever as a response to the Simon Cowell interview. And the responses range from the rational to the downright crazy.
